"The difference between the almost right word and the right word
is really a large matter."
— Mark Twain
You’ve written your story. Fiction or non-fiction. What next?
The word EDITING fills you with fear!
Sharing your manuscript feels like leaving your baby with a stranger.
Let me reassure you. My only intention is to enhance your writing without removing your voice. It is a collaborative process, and you are in charge at every stage.
My editing is instinctive, shaped by a lifetime of reading, a love of language, and an eye for words honed by growing up proofreading for my father’s typesetting business. Whatever stage your writing is at, we will work together to ensure your work is the best it can be.
Over the last six years, I have worked with more than a hundred writers, many of them sharing their work with an editor for the first time. What I’ve learned is that every piece of writing is important and unique. My job is to let your voice shine through and ensure nothing is lost in the edit.
How I actually work
Most editors offer developmental editing, line editing, and copy editing as separate stages of the process. I’ve tried to do that, I have! But it turns out I am physically incapable of it! If I am reading for structure and I spot a clunky sentence or a stray comma, I fix it there and then. It’s just how my brain works.
So instead of pretending otherwise, here’s what I offer:
The Full Edit – from £18 per 1,000 words
Once your writing’s ready, there’s often more to figure out — formatting for print or eBook, decisions about self-publishing, even a cover. I’ve helped with all of it, and I’m happy to talk it through, whatever stage you’re at.
Get in touch and we’ll figure out what fits and what it’ll cost.
Proofreading – from £14 per 1,000 words
The last check before your writing goes out into the world — after formatting, right before publishing. I look for the small things: spelling, punctuation, consistency, anything that slipped through. This isn’t the stage for big feedback or restructuring — by this point, your writing is already doing what it needs to do. I’m just making sure it looks as good as it reads.
Beyond the Edit
Once your writing’s ready, there’s often more to figure out — formatting for print or eBook, decisions about self-publishing, even a cover. I’ve helped with all of it, and I’m happy to talk it through, whatever stage you’re at.

Not sure where to start?
For larger projects, I offer a sample edit of up to 1,000 words. This lets you see my editing style, understand the level of feedback you’ll receive, and feel confident before committing. It also helps me recommend whether proofreading or the full edit would suit your work best.
