At the centre of Corner House Words is a simple belief: writing begins with reading. The books here are not separate from my work, they are part of it. All the best writers read -a lot. To read as a writer is to notice the quiet beauty of a sentence and see how it holds meaning, rhythm, and feeling all at once.
Over time, that attention becomes part of how you write.
Some of those influences begin early. The books we read as children stay with us in ways we don’t always recognise at the time.

Book of the Month
June 2026 – The Shadow of the Wind – Carloss Ruiz Zafon
This month’s book is a gorgeous gothic tale set in Barcelona in 1945. It is beautifully written with sweeping prose that took my breath away.
Even better, it is a love letter to Literature and books.
This was a book that I could not bear to put down!

Each month I choose a book I want to put into someone’s hands right now. It might be something new, or something I have returned to. Or it may be chosen for no reason other than it feels worth sharing.
Books I'm Reading Now
I usually have three books on the go. One physical book which tends to be something work based or part of a university assignment. One on Audible, usually an auto-biography, which I listen to when I am cooking or driving. And then one on my Kindle which I read before bed. Here is what I am reading at the moment.
Learning to edit your own work is real skill and something I love to help my authors explore.

I have a secret penchant for teen sagas on TV and recently worked my way through One Tree Hill. Bethany played one of my favourite characters and has a fascinating back story.

This is a book brought to my attention by Reese Witherspoons book club – worth investigting if you need inspiration for reading. Loving it so far!
